The Shepherds Hut by Stepney Stays

NOTE: During your stay you get access to Hilltop Sauna, a haven for relaxation, renewal, and connection with nature. At its heart is a traditional wood-fired Scandinavian sauna, where the gentle hiss of steam, the earthy scent of warm pine create an authentic and restorative experience. also with a dip in the natural plunge pond. Please note other guest do get access to this facility as well. 

Located within the grounds of Stepney Hill Farm, on the outskirts of Scarborough, is Shepherd’s Hut, a cosy shepherd’s hut offering studio-style accommodation for two, surrounded by countryside and distant sea views, making this a perfect couple’s retreat for anyone wanting to enjoy a peaceful location, close to the North Yorkshire coast.

This compact, wood-panelled property offers a good-sized double bed, a small dining area, in front of a cosy woodburner and a small kitchen with an electric oven and hob, plus a microwave and a fridge, so you’ll have everything you need for a self-catering holiday.

Outside there is an external building next to the hut containing a shower and WC, that is strictly for guests of Shepherd’s Hut only.

There is parking available in a car park a short walk away and there is a picnic bench at the side of the property, should you wish to dine alfresco and enjoy your secluded location.

The working farm has fields that surround the property, with grazing sheep, as well as an award-winning butcher’s, a tearoom and a wedding function room, and on a clear night, you can enjoy an amazing stargazing experience.

Venture into the centre of the bustling seaside resort of Scarborough to find a host of amenities, pubs, bars and restaurants, if you feel like dining out during your stay.

There are two fantastic sandy beaches to choose from, separated by the imposing Medieval castle, which rests in the headland and overlooks the sea, while the Japanese inspired Peasholm Park provides a stunning backdrop for an afternoon stroll and if you’re looking for adventure, spend a day at the water park of Alpamare UK.

Explore the area via train, by boarding the North Bay Heritage Railway, or on foot by joining the Cleveland Way, which you can follow in either direction along the coast.

Head north into the North York Moors National Park for more excellent walking and cycling trails, as well as the popular seaside resort of Whitby, while south takes you to Filey and the Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast, home to the RSPB Bempton Cliffs Seabird Centre and excellent for wildlife lovers.

Shepherd’s Hut is a cosy base to return to after a day exploring the North Yorkshire coast.
